Bulls Island Recreation area in New Jersey will remain closed this season as the State Department of Environmental Development continues to study the Sycamore Trees at the North end of the campground. Apparently this all started when a large piece fell off of one of the trees killing a man and injuring his wife in 2011.

This is a beautiful camp on a remote stretch of the Salmon River. There is trail access from the camp to the river. Spots are mostly level and in good repair. The road to this camp is paved, but it is a narrow one lane road that is not suitable for trailers or large RV's.

The spots in this camp may not be level nor the best maintained I have been too, but the natural beauty of the spot makes this a great camp anyway. Right on the Trinity River and adjacent to the wilderness, this is an ideal location for hikers to camp and explore nature.

Did you know that in the Northwest there is a bird (a grey jay bird) that is also called a "camp robber"? These guys are not shy at all and have been known to fly down and steal treats right out of campers hands! Thus the nickname.
I once had one land on my hat while snowshoeing in the Mt. Hood National Forest and then try to pluck the fluffy ball off of the top. I've taken pictures of the "Canadian Jay" taking crackers from fellow campers hands. They are fun.....until they get really brave and start picking treats right off of the camp table!
I'm not sure if these birds exist outside of the Northwest.....anyone else seen them elsewhere?
This densely forested park reminds me of a dark labyrinth from a childrens book. The campsites are small and tightly spaced and privacy is scarce as it seems people are always walking by on the way to the beach or bathroom. Don't plan on seeing the sun in your campsite while staying here. I much preferred South Beach State Park south of Newport.

This is a very nice campground! We have stayed for a little over two months enjoying the area and all the activities here in the park! The staff is very helpful. They help you get backed into your spot and answer any questions you might have about the area. The exercise classes are very good and completely free! Also, they are pet friendly, you just have to clean up after your pet. Bingo nights are fun and so are the Ice Cream Socials! Our campsite is grass and we are on an inner spot (cheaper) but we are still only 150 yards from the water. However, there are spots by the water. They have a boat ramp here and a car wash and a dock for your boat. The showers are clean and so is the laundry. Oh and don't forget free Wifi! A lot of the people have been coming here for years. It is like one big family. We didn't find one grump in the group. It is also very safe at night. I walk my dog late some nights and it is very quiet. The paved streets have speed bumps so the cars go by slow. Not much noise here other than the wind! So close to Padre Island without the high price camping. It has just recently gone under new management and they are doing a lot of improvements too. My husband and I really enjoyed visiting with the people and going on day trips to the island. If you want a nice quiet place with all the amenities, this is your place!

This is basically an asphalt lot with walk in tables and fire pits all closely spaced together. The lot is a staging area for OHV's and is noisy and crowded. This is a nice, quiet, inexpensive park to visit when in Pine Mountain or Warm Springs area. The overall park was very clean and well taken care of. Pets areas were clean and well managed. All hook-ups worked very well. The only thing was there was no cable to campsites. People running the park were very nice and checked on us daily. I would rate this park at 4.5 out of 5- only because of no cable.

The price to camp at this beyond primitive site is $25. Many of the campsites are located very far from any restrooms.

There were many people camped there on a mid-October weekend, including lots of drinking campers (ie show up at 10pm get wasted to loud music around the campfire and then leave around 10am).

Also, I don't know about the wintertime, but in October there were many many cars that made it easily over the road and into the campsite.

I would love this little, high-altitude campground if it were still open but the recent fire has left too many doug fir and ponderosa widow-makers hanging overhead. The meadow has come back but the big trees are all dead. For those wishing to camp in the area anyway, there are a few, small flat spots off the road for dispersed camping in the last 1/2 mile before the fire closure.

The Forest Service has changed the name to Rucker Forest Camp because the tiny lake is no more. Still, this high, small, old CG at the end of the a dirt road is great on a hot summer's day. Built in the CCC style, this CG will only work for tents and very small RVs or trailers.

I'm a regular at this campground, since family lives nearby.
It has a beautiful, beautiful view (see my pictures) and is very well maintained. The fees are reasonable : $14 for water & electricity hookups , $10 without, water is nearby.
Flora is mainly creosote, prickly pear, yucca and mesquite. No shade from trees.
Plenty of skunks and foxes at dusk.
The downside: it gets very hot in summer (Thank god for AC!) and almost on a regular basis there are fire restrictions from end of May to mid July, because of lack of rain. No BBQ fire! Needless to say, no ground fire, but you won't need one, air is hot enough!
It also gets very windy from time to time in spring or fall, mostly at night. I always feel sorry for the tenters at these times. Had the experience a couple of years ago, when I was still with my tent: no sleep all night , afraid the tent would collapse any moment.
The busiest months are March and October. I would recommend a reservation for these months for an electricity site.
For some reason the dump station is down for almost a year now! I don't know what happened here and why they can't fix it. No problem if you go north to Alamogordo, the dump station is at the chamber of commerce right behind the zoo, but it's a hassle if you travel towards El Paso.

4/12/2013 Dumpstation ist open again
This is a stunning campground set in a coastal Valley just inland from the beach. Cape Perpetua is one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline on the West Coast and there is much to see and do near by. This campground is run by a concessionaire, meaning its going to cost as much or more than the nearby state parks despite having fewer ammenities.

This is a nice place to escape the summer heat. Open from May 15th to September 15th. The fees are a little high. $ 15 for Camping or Picnicking, $ 8 for an additional car, without any electricity and/or water. There's only one water spigot near the entrance.
However the campground host is not so nice: My daughter visited me for a BBQ and had to pay the 8 Dollar fee, because they stayed 'over 1 hour'! They did not stay overnight nor used an extra camp spot. This is ridiciulous.

Honestly I had not heard of this NP,until our fall trip 2012.We were planing ahead while still in Minnesota and driving I 94 and spotted this place. The campsites at the south unit are along the Little Missouri River. The area is the northern bad lands and there are lots of animals, mainly bison that roam through the camp. The 36 mile loop gives you a look at some of the back country with trails at pull offs to walk.
Our visit was in Oct so the weather was mild,I think the summers would be hot. Most sites had some trees and the sites are spread out nicely. There is a northern unit that is more remote, next time we will try it.
This campground is on the lower slope of the mighty Steens Mountain, and is just a few miles from Frenchglen. The campground is beautiful and opportunities for wildlife viewing are everywhere. Be sure to drive the Steens Mountain loop while you are here - it is magnificent!

Wallowa lake sits on the edge of the spectacular Eagle Cap wilderness. This park has easy access to Wallowa lake, and the trailheads into the wilderness. The town of Joseph is a short drive from the park and has many great restaurants and other ammenities.

This RV park is a short walk from the incredible Wallace Idaho historic district and the trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. The brew pub located at the park features exceptionally good beer and food. Worth a stay for sure!

I spent a lot of time in this park over the summer. It has a good balance of trees and open areas for sunlight. The layout allows for many beach access points (all are one-third to one-half of a mile walks to the beach). The tent loops are particularly nice although the showers in the tent area are barely hot enough even when usage is light. During busy season expect a cold shower or walk over to the RV loops for a warmer experience. The park also has a network of trails that are great for hikes or even challenging trail runs. It is possible to walk from this park to Newport.
