FDR is one of our favorite parks. The campground is a bit "worn" due to budget cuts but still very nice. The lake is lovely to hike around in the spring with Azaleas and Mountain Laurel in bloom. Most sites can see the lake - some are lakeside.
The Pool is some distance from the campground (plan on walking) and was closed in 2009 due to budget shortages.
There is a LOT of hiking in the area including a long, multi day trail down the Pine Mountain ridge.
In the area is Callaway Gardens, The Little White House, several small towns with wonderful antique shopping and an Animal Safari.
