stayed at picacho april 14 thru 17 2011. Most of the campsites are very private. first site we chose 6 because it was hidden behind trees and was very large and shaded. probably the largest site. BUT after the first 15 minutes we realized under the trees is bad due to mosquitos! we each had about 20 bites in 15 minutes! we sprayed down with repellanr and set up camp. we decided the next morning to move! we were covered in bites. so with the advice of the ranger lady we moved to 52. next to the cemetary. much better! just watch out for rattlesnakes there. had a record size come thru our site. its a good campground if u have a boat or canoe. we didnt. we went to fish from shore but u are limited to the boat dock for fishing. and if there is more than one other group fishing, then u are outta luck. for us it was not worth the hour long dirt road drive. very bumpy unless u drive over 40. we drove in doing 20 and it sucked! drove out doing 40 and wasnt as bad. plan on bringing everything u will need. the trip to town is long
pros: private and quiet...ranger on site ( who drives thru frequently)
cons: mosquitos, cold showers, long drive in, no beach area, long drive to town
