Bulls Island Recreation area in New Jersey will remain closed this season as the State Department of Environmental Development continues to study the Sycamore Trees at the North end of the campground. Apparently this all started when a large piece fell off of one of the trees killing a man and injuring his wife in 2011.

Did you know that in the Northwest there is a bird (a grey jay bird) that is also called a "camp robber"? These guys are not shy at all and have been known to fly down and steal treats right out of campers hands! Thus the nickname.
I once had one land on my hat while snowshoeing in the Mt. Hood National Forest and then try to pluck the fluffy ball off of the top. I've taken pictures of the "Canadian Jay" taking crackers from fellow campers hands. They are fun.....until they get really brave and start picking treats right off of the camp table!
I'm not sure if these birds exist outside of the Northwest.....anyone else seen them elsewhere?
September means cooler temperatures, less crowds, beautiful colors, and a last chance to camp.

With schools back in session most folks are locked back into the routine and can't spend time out camping. For the rest of us this means lighter campground loads and more available campsites. In the higher elevations the fall colors will be starting to brighten up and can be an excellent time to get some scenic photography done. The cooler temps mean more comfortable camping. The National parks and State parks often have more reservation spots open and less traffic too.

In short, just because summer is waning, doesn't mean that camping has to come to an end. Get out there and get those last trips in. You won't be disappointed.
