This is a pretty nice campground for not being a State Park. Green lawns and shaded campsites make for easy camping. This is also a great "jumping off" point for fly fishing on the Donner and Blitzen River. I only gave it 4 stars because of the bad bugs in the Spring and that the river can run pretty high through June on high snow years.

Never again will I ever stay at this campground. This is by far the worst one I have ever been to. The price is crazy for what u get. The staff is rude. U will never get the same answer twice or even close. Forget about asking the owner he is worse and aragant. I feard for both myself and my families lives everynight due to the speeding golf carts driven by drunken campers. The staff also needs a lesson on not to speed around playgrounds and pools. The rules? There might as well not even be any. None of them r enforced. Kids jump the fence to the pool after hours, golf carts flying everywhere, there is no quiet time. If u complain to the owner he just threatns to kick u out so dont bother. The activities r boring at best. The only time bathrooms r cleaned is right when the pool closes so if u need to change or shower u have to wait and freeze or walk to the other side of the campground which smells like raw sewage. When stzffers r done cleaning u still have no paper towels or toilet paper.

My group camped at Gardner Hill for two straight years. First, I must comment on the positive aspects of this camp ground.. The view is spectacular, there is none better anywhere.
What is negative about Gardner Hill? Everything else. The one reason we went to was because it had a pool. We were informed that it would be fully operational by the time we arrived. It was not. The Playground consists of 4 pieces of dangerous pre 1950’s equipment that is severe disrepair. The bathhouse is a barely functional facility with rat holes in the walls, cracked uneven floors, and tiny primitive showers. There is not even a mirror in the ladies room. The overall condition of the campground is poor. Lawns are largely unmowed, and the facility is largely ignored. The Recreation Hall is packed full of items that would not sell at a garage sale. Gardner Hill advertises free pool and table tennis, but there is no room to play either. The entry goes past house trailers whose small yards are packed with junk. The fishing pond is a small swamp that is a mosquito breeding ground with no fish. I have been camping for all of my 49 years, and I have never seen a camp run as shoddily as Gardner Hill. Our second year saw none of the promised improvements that made that lead us to return. The pool was non functional again, the Rec. Hall was still a wreck hall. A storm had hit the camp the day before our arrival, and the owners were struggling to clean up because they didn’t have a running chainsaw. The power was out, but the owners waited for two full days to repair, then fire up their generator to provide water. This was followed by an attempt to charge us for services not provided, and a threat of legal action if we damaged their lawn while pulling out. I can’t help but think how easy it would be for this to be a really terrific camp if only it were managed correctly.
Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst possible score, I would give this camp a rating of 1. Other than the God given view for the ages Gardner Hill (or its proposed new name “The Campground”) has no redeeming qualities.
This is a nice suprise of a Campground right off of I81 at Exit 19 and not visable from the highways. Beautiful wooded areas/campsites, great roads (a bit tight/narrow for big rigs but accessible for the experienced). Quite and patrolled to keep it that way. No hassles unless there are problems. Gate guard until late at night and not accesible to public traffic late at night. Beautiful creek at a close recreation area and a wet lands walk area that is a kids paradise! Nice playground at entrance to park, many places for hiking/biking right there at the campground and most important is that Exit 19 has every type of store/resturant and grocery needs you could possibly want from WalMart, Target and Rosses plus Home Depot and Lowes along with fast foods/fine dining/sports bars and more.
Close to historic Abingdon and right on the Tennessee line with lots of things to do! South Holsten lake is close, too.
The prices are very reasonable with electricity, nice clean showers and bathrooms! You will NOT be dissapointed with this place!

My whole family just loves this park. The park is safe for teenagers and children to ride bikes, swim, walk, and play outdoor games. The other campers are so friendly and helpful.

We have camped during the weekdays and weekends and have always been satisfied with the services. The camp hostess and her husband are great folks.

Camp dump station (2) is very busy if leaving after 12(Sundays) so we like to leave around 11 and it takes us only 15 minutes of waiting. The bathrooms are very clean with toilet paper, payed showers are also clean and very hot and 50 cents is all you really need for a great HOT SHOWER.
Showed up 1 hour early and were told we could not enter the camp ground at all by a large very rude woman. We booked 5 days and left after 2 because our children 2 girls ages 10, 12 were harassed at the store, the arcade and riding there bike in the middle of the afternoon by the women that run Beaver Dam. It got to the point were my girls were afraid to leave the camp site so we left. This place could be very good if it were not for the rude unwelcoming staff that run the place. My girls are very well behaved and they were scared out of the arcade for playing the pay to play games. I would not recommend this cap ground to my worst enemy.
We visited Lava Beds Memorial Day weekend of 2011. This is a little visited area with a lot to do and see. You can spend a couple of days exploring the caves and other geological features of this National Monument. There is also a lot of history from the time when this area was being settled. And nearby wildlife areas provide some great bird watching, including hundreds of Bald Eagles in the winter time.
The campground has two loops and nice restrooms. The A loop is smaller and a couple of the campsites have nice views towards Tule Lake. Overall this is a good place to get away from the usual crowded parks.

We stayed here in June 2011. It is heavily forested with oak trees with some evergreens mixed in giving the spaces lots of shade. A creek flows behind some of the sites. Sites are spaced well giving some privacy between spaces. It is set back a ways from the highway so you don't hear the road noise. Smaller rigs or tents are best as the road is narrow and the spaces a bit short for large rvs or trailers.

Of course this could be a place to stay when visiting the local wineries. $35 a night is a bargain compared to Napa Valley hotel prices. But there are other things to do here. There are a couple of hiking trails. One goes through a small old cemetary and to the old Bale Mill. The other goes back into the hills to a fantastic old growth redwood grove. It is hard to believe you are so close to the crowded Napa Valley. Overall a nice place.

This is an excellent campground, especially if you are able to stay in the Hickory Loop (In my opinion spot #134 was the best). I felt very secluded and close to trails. Most of the spots in the hickory loop are shaded and in the trees. There were a ton of mosquitoes and curious raccoons...but nothing that I didn't expect when I go camping. You can't walk to go swimming since you can't swim in McGinnis Lake--you have to drive to Lake Heron. The trails were lots of fun, easy to get to, and easy to walk.

Rainbow Falls has a great group camp for many campers to gather in with a group kitchen, picnic tables and campfire. The scenery is wonderful for hiking and it has a very scenic river. We miss the bridge that washed out at the entry over the falls but that's nature for you! I have fond memories of taking my daughter there to camp as a little girl. To this day the park is special to her as well. Ranger Phil is a fun guy to have in charge and has always been accomodating. The park has always been clean and mowed. As for prices, its the same for all State Parks. Talk to your governor if you don't want to pay or camp in your own backyard. It takes money to keep it maintained and pristine. I think its a wonderful place to take your family.

On the positive side, the campground is nice, there are some decent fish in the lakes, the staff is friendly and the swimming pool is pretty good.

Our rental camper was in good shape except the mattress in the main bedroom was a box spring, not a mattress and was uncomfortable to sleep on. The door lock was broken on the inside of the door so the door could be locked from the outside but not from the inside.

The miniature golf course is terribly run down but they often had other activities going on for kids.

During our stay, the camp’s water pump broke so there was often no running water at any camp site. They turned on the water for brief times at very low pressure but most campers couldn’t take showers. They did bring in gallon jugs of bottled water which they would SELL you for $1.85 a bottle. I thought, under the circumstances, they could have given away at least one bottle per camp site.

But all in all, we had a good time.

The positive aspects of this campground are that it is in a very senic location, is very wooded, and the campground has a beautiful lake and alot of land.

The negatives of this campground:
As you enter the campground you see a sign saying that "DOGS MUST REMAIN ON CAMPSITE". You are not allowed to take your dog off your site at any time for a walk. We were not told about this rule when we made the reservation, nor did we see it on their website. I asked if we could walk them along the public road and was told I could take them to a park elsewhere to walk them.

If you want to fish, you pay for the privilege to fish, then if you catch a fish you pay another fee for the fish. You must pay for any size fish you catch. They don't allow you to throw back undersize fish.

There is a rule that you must turn off your strings of lights at 11:00 PM. They patrol the campground at 11:00 pm and if your lights are still on they walk up to your RV and pull out the plug. Meanwhile, they allow seasonals to burn decorative lighting all night. They also don't ask the seasonal campers next door to quite down and observe the quite hours.

Needless to say, we won't be back to Evergreen Lake. Our dogs are a part of our family. We enjoy walking around the campground with the dogs, not having them under house arrest.
This is by far the worst campground we have stayed at. There are no food eating places, stores are so far. We left to go to the store, someone went to our camper and stole all my husband's fishing gear. We told the management, WHO DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. Can't reserve the site you want, only the regulars get the best spots. A ruined vacation spot. Never again.

I love this little campground with its views of both Bad Water and Mt Whitney. Camp here if you want to hike to the top of Death Valley, Telescope Peak.

Only tents are allowed at small Long's Peak Campground. If you want to get away from the crowds or need a basecamp for the hike up Long's Peak, this may be the spot for you. Bring a warm sleeping bag!

Half the trees at Glacier Basin have been killed by the bark beetle so look for a site in the trees. This CG is very central for some of the best views and hiking in RMNP.

Moraine Park CG has many sites but they are well spaced for privacy, and, because the bark beetles have not killed all the trees, there is also shade. Some of the best RMNP trails start right here!
