About: Situated in the pine trees behind a gate on the north side of Loon Lake, Red Fir Group offers a semi-private recreation experience for a small group (up to 25) of tent campers (no trailers). Popular activities in the area include four-wheel driving on the Rubicon 4WD trail, hiking, wilderness backpacking (day permits are available at the Loon Lake Trailhead and overnight permits are available at the Eldorado Information Center), fishing, boating, mountain biking, and motorcycle riding. The facility is on the north side of the road so it is not directly on the lake but can be reached by a short walk.

Directions: Highway 50 east of Placerville approximately 21 miles to Ice House Road at river take a left, go north 28 miles to fork. Take a right, go 9 miles to Red Fir Group campground. On north shore of Loon Lake between first and second dam.
