Campground Details

Open: Seasonal
Number of Sites: 18

On the upper Metolius River, this campground offers opportunities for fishing and hiking. Gorge is the fifth campground that you come to on the Metolius River and is more isolated and quieter than its neighbors. It has the largest of the Ponderosa Pines in the area.

There is a fish hatchery close by where you can see fish ranging from the little ones that will be released later to the large ones that are feed here and saved for some lucky kids on the kids fishing day. There is a path along the river that can be followed all the way into the little town of Camp Sherman or you might like to ride your bikes on the road that leads from Camp Sherman to all of the campgrounds. This area is normally sunny, but still has the giant trees of the Cascade Mountains, only these are mostly Ponderosa Pines instead of Douglas Firs.

Fees: Per night, per site fee: $16/first vehicle; $8/each additional vehicle. (2011)

Usage: Medium-Heavy

Water: None

Restrictions Maximum site spur length is 50 feet.

Directions: From Sisters, travel 9.6 miles northwest on Hwy 20, then 6.1 miles north on Forest Road 14, then two miles north on Forest Road 1419.
