It won’t be hard for you to figure out how this campground got its name. Almost all the campgrounds in the Deschutes National Forest have the high desert look about them, tall Ponderosa Pines, brown sandy soil, sparse vegetation and very little grass, this one is different. As soon as you go over the bridge that takes you over the Deschutes River, you will see the difference. The whole area is grassy with mostly deciduous trees providing shade. The sites are isolated from one another and this is a little used campground, so you shouldn’t be bothered by your neighbors. It is right on the river, but close to Crane Prairie Reservoir. It does have a small boat ramp.

Boat launch only large enough for small boats. Excellent fishing opportunities. 10 MPH speed limit is enforced for boating on Crane Prairie.

Fees: Per night per site fee:$10/first vehicle; $5/each additional vehicle. (2011)

Water: No

Restroom: Vault Toilet

Restrictions: Maximum site spur length is 26 feet.

RV Camping: The tight road and heavy vegetation makes it difficult for large RV use. Anything over 30 feet is discouraged.

Directions: From Bend, travel about 45 miles south on Cascade Lakes Hwy (46), 0.5 mile east on Forest Road 40, then 2 miles south on Forest Road 4000-970.
