Box Butte Reservoir SRA encompasses 2,212 acres (1,600-acre lake) on the west edge of the Sandhills, 9½ miles N of Hemingford. Facilities/Activities: Electrical and Primitive camping, water, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, unsupervised swimming, picnic tables, shelters, vault toilets, fishing and hiking.

Box Butte is a 1,600 acre impoundment on the Niobrara River with an adjacent 612 acres of land.
