Sportsmans’ beach is one of three campgrounds located on the west side of Walker Lake. Access is directly off of Highway 95 approximately 55 miles south of Fallon, Nevada. Fees are $6.00 for developed sites and $4.00 for non developed sites. The lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities including swimming, picnicing, boating, fishing, bird watching, water skiing, and camping. Supplies can be purchased at the city of Hawthorne, fifteen miles south of Walker Lake.

Walker Lake historically has been a well known trout fishery and bird watching location. Due to agricultural use of water from the Walker River and the draught, the water level has dropped drastically and the salinity of the lake is very high. Though adult fish still survive in the lake, the salinity level has caused the offspring to not be viable. Without the small fish for food, the birds no longer visit the lake.
