Cumberland Mountain State Park is situated on the Cumberland Plateau, a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama. It is said to be the largest timbered plateau in America. This 1,720-acre park was acquired in 1938 as a project of the Farm Security Administration to provide a recreational area for some 250 families selected to homestead on the Cumberland Plateau.

Wonderful get away!
In 2006 we had planned for the two of us to go away for a weekend camping trip. Our first location ended up being so full we moved on. After a interesting drive to find another park we came across this park. It was wonderful. There is a restaurant across from the park that has a home cooked buffet that isn't expensive, I didn't even cook for the weekend. It has some great trails, boating, playground and a large pool. Country setting but close to town for shopping if needed. We now go back every fall.
